Successful “win-win” youth development program, Goals For Life announces initial plans to expand into NFL cities, beginning with Cincinnati.
Founder and Executive Director, Reggie Berry announced today that Goals For Life, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping provide at-risk youth with the life-skills and guidance necessary to reach their goals is expanding. After producing significant results for over 20 years in the Greater Los Angeles area by closely coordinating with school principals and counselors, and staffing the program with former NFL players, Mr. Berry believes the Goals For Life curriculum can make a difference in the lives of at-risk children in other metropolitan areas, particularly NFL cities.
“I knew that by recruiting former NFL athletes to teach the curriculum, many of whom were themselves at-risk children from single parent households, the Goals For Life students would be more inspired to succeed,” recalled the former San Diego Charger. Mr. Berry went on to say, “Our students learn goal setting techniques, and the benefits and rewards of hard work, focus, teamwork, and self-discipline. Our intention is to provide our students with successful character building alternatives to the temptations of truancy, bullying, academic apathy, gang involvement, drug and alcohol use, and crime.”
Work has already started to implement the highly effective Goals For Life program in Cincinnati beginning this fall (2011) with 5 of the lowest performing elementary schools, and working with 30 of the most at-risk students (5th – 8th graders) in each school. Midwest Program Director, Marvin Cobb is currently working with the Cincinnati Public School District’s brand new M.O.R.E. Program, teaching the Goals For Life curriculum at Roselawn Condon Elementary School, and another school will be added before the end of the year. A former Cincinnati defensive back, Cobb who joined the Bengals in time for Paul Brown’s last season as head coach and has worked in the field of nonprofit youth development programs for the past 14 years, will coordinate the new Goals For Life chapter and help to refine the delivery system as a model for further expansion into other NFL cities.
